Mid-Year Conference 2027

Conference Overview

When and Where:

The mid-year conference will be held April 1-2, 2027, in Salt Lake City, UT, at the Cleone Peterson Eccles Alumni House at the University of Utah.

Our Goal:

In October, 1999 a team of eminent sociologists, psychologists and public health researchers published the Multidimensional Measurement of Religiousness / Spirituality for Use in Health Research – supported by both the Fetzer Foundation and the National Institutes of Health. The work of this team was a watershed moment, from which has flowed thousands of studies of religion and spirituality (R/S) as measurable factors in health, wellbeing, and basic psychological research.

Despite the rich theories, methods and tools generated, with clear applications to work across other Psychology disciplines, few of our resources are incorporated by non-R/S researchers. The goal of this mid-year is simple. Let us clarify how our existing and future research can help answer fundamental questions across numerous fields of psychological research. Then, let’s provide our colleagues the tools to access the utility of Religion for Each & Every Division of the American Psychological Association and beyond. See the PDF below for a longer description of Project REED, and a table that describes each division’s own priorities. We ask that you then propose presentations, panels, or posters with salient R/S concepts variables, along with useful R/S measures, methodologies and analyses for us to share with our colleagues to help advance all of our priorities.

Salt Lake City Highlights:

-  Plenty of hiking and skiing

-  LDS church history sites

-  Great food and brewery scene

-  Our venue is a five-minute walk from the light rail, offering easy access to downtown SLC and the SLC International Airport.

We hope you will join us for a collegial conference and some local adventures!

Call for Proposals

Theme: A Time to Share our Quarter Century of 21st Century Empirical Research that demonstrates the utility of Religion for Each & Every Division (Project REED)

We have gathered some of the key questions outstanding across divisions, and now ask you to think about where your work may help answer some of these questions. We are looking for individual and collective proposals that center applicability for other divisions, and have created a Google Sheet to foster collaboration initiatives. Divisions’ top interest areas may serve as inspiration and are outlined beginning on page four of the PDF below. We are looking forward to receiving your proposals, and especially look forward to working together to accomplish this greater goal.
